REP. JENKINS: WV’S ECONOMY GROWING FASTER THAN NATIONAL RATE
WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement on new economic statistics that show West Virginia’s GDP rate is outpacing the national GDP rate.
West Virginia’s 2017 GDP growth rate was 2.6 percent, higher than the United States’ GDP growth rate of 2.1 percent, according to the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis. Additionally, the national unemployment rate dropped to 3.9 percent in April, the lowest rate since December 2000.
“Since day one I have worked tirelessly with President Trump to get our economy growing again. We’re supporting our coal miners by rolling back job-killing regulations, and I sponsored legislation to save one-third of all coal jobs. We also worked to pass landmark tax cuts that are putting more money in the pockets of West Virginia’s families and helping small businesses create more jobs,” Rep. Jenkins said.
“President Trump’s leadership and solutions are paying off. Consumer confidence is up, businesses are hiring and reinvesting, and families are benefitting from tax cuts. These numbers prove we’re on the right track, and I’ll keep working with President Trump to keep West Virginia growing and bring jobs back home.”
