REP. JENKINS STATEMENT ON WV TEACHERS’ STRIKE
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement today in response to the ongoing statewide strike by West Virginia’s teachers:
“Our teachers in West Virginia deserve a pay raise to support their families and educate the next generation of leaders in West Virginia. My wife and I have raised three children that attended West Virginia’s public schools, and our youngest is a high school senior missing school like other students.
“I was pleased to hear Governor Justice announce that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act I helped pass in Congress is spurring the economic growth in West Virginia that will help generate the extra funds needed to give our teachers and state workers a much-needed pay raise. The tax cut bill also lets all hardworking West Virginians keep more money in their own pocket, not the government’s.
“While I do not have a vote on this issue at the State Capitol in Charleston, I am keeping in touch with state leaders and am encouraging them to reach a solution quickly. One thing is clear: The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is growing our economy, creating new jobs and providing a better future for West Virginians.”
