REP. JENKINS STATEMENT ON WOODY WILLIAMS SHIP CHRISTENING

October 20, 2017
Press Release
“I hope every sailor aboard the ship will carry on Woody’s legacy through their own service aboard the USNS Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams.”

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement ahead of Saturday’s christening of the USNS Hershel “Woody” Williams:

“Almost two years ago, we joined Woody Williams in Charleston to celebrate this honor and pay tribute again to his life of service. On Saturday, the USNS Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams will officially be christened by the U.S. Navy and join the fleet of distinguished vessels serving across the world to protect and defend freedom. I hope every sailor aboard the ship will carry on Woody’s legacy through their own service aboard the USNS Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams. May this ship and its crew honor Woody’s life and the motto he chose – “Peace we seek, peace we keep,’” Rep. Jenkins said.

Rep. Jenkins has also introduced legislation to rename the Huntington VA Medical Center to the Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams VA Medical Center.
