REP. JENKINS: FTC WRONG TO BLOCK CABELL HUNTINGTON, ST. MARY’S MERGER

November 6, 2015
Press Release
“I worked closely with West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey to craft a comprehensive agreement to protect consumers, patients and our hard-working hospital employees.”

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement today on the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s block of the Cabell Huntington Hospital’s merger with St. Mary’s Medical Center:

“I am disappointed by the Federal Trade Commission’s refusal to approve this important merger. I worked closely with West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey to craft a comprehensive agreement to protect consumers, patients and our hard-working hospital employees. This agreement safeguarded access to care while controlling costs for patients and saving jobs, which I argued in a letter to the FTC. I will continue to advocate for our community’s leadership position as a center of healthcare excellence,” Rep. Jenkins said.
