REP. JENKINS BOOSTS FUNDING FOR NATIONAL GUARD COUNTERDRUG PROGRAM
WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) has secured a key provision authorizing an additional $10 million for the National Guard Counterdrug Program.
Rep. Jenkins offered the funding increase as an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act, and it was adopted unanimously. The U.S. House of Representatives voted Friday to pass the NDAA, a critical military authorization bill, by a vote of 344-81.
The National Guard Counterdrug Program works with community, state and federal agencies to coordinate counterdrug and drug trafficking law enforcement efforts.
“As West Virginia is fighting a devastating drug epidemic, we must fund programs to stop drug trafficking and keep drugs out of our communities. I am proud to have secured this authorization for the National Guard Counterdrug Program because this program works. In recent years, the West Virginia National Guard has seized more than $500 million of illegal drugs, and I know this increased funding will make a difference in keeping drugs off our streets,” Rep. Jenkins said.
