REP. JENKINS: APPLY NOW FOR AML PILOT FUNDS
WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) announced today that applications are now being accepted for $25 million in funding to redevelop abandoned mine lands in West Virginia.
Through his role on the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Jenkins helped established the AML pilot program, which has brought $80 million to West Virginia since the program started in 2016.
“I fought hard to secure these millions of dollars for West Virginia to create jobs, put displaced coal miners back to work, and revitalize our coalfields. This program has already funded several exciting projects in West Virginia, and I encourage all qualified applicants to apply,” Rep. Jenkins said.

The grants are being administered by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation. The WVDEP will decide which projects will be funded, working with an advisory committee with representatives from the West Virginia Department of Commerce and the governor’s office. Recipients may be announced as early as September.
Previously funded projects range from water line expansions and public sewer system improvements to new construction at a YMCA facility and development of an ATV trail.
