REP. JENKINS ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR WV HIGHWAYS
WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) announced today that the Federal Highway Administration has awarded a $5 million grant to the West Virginia Department of Transportation to repair highways damaged by storms in March.
The West Virginia congressional delegation sent a letter to President Obama shortly after the storm, expressing support for Governor Earl Ray Tomblin’s disaster declaration request for the state of West Virginia. The storm brought ice, rain and snow to West Virginia from March 3-6, resulting in flooding, landslides and mudslides that damaged federally-funded roads. The president signed the disaster declaration on March 31.
“Many West Virginians felt the impact of this late winter storm, which washed out roads throughout the Third Congressional District. I am pleased that the state will receive much-needed federal funds to repair and rebuild roads and infrastructure damaged by floodwaters and mudslides. Through the combined efforts of our congressional delegation and the governor, we were able to secure these funds and ensure better roads for West Virginians,” Rep. Jenkins said.
